Yard area of the Degmeda Shou Sugi Ban production facility

Since 2018, Degmeda has produced Shou Sugi Ban charred wood in Lithuania for architectural projects across Europe and beyond. We work with architects, designers, homeowners, resellers and timber merchants, combining the traditional practice of wood charring with controlled industrial production.

Our wood has been used in more than 4,130 projects worldwide, with total production exceeding 753,000 m². With capacity to produce up to 6,000 m² each week, we support individual projects and trade partners while maintaining close attention to surface finish and consistency.

We see quality as an ongoing responsibility. It shapes how we select timber, refine our processes and prepare each board. Our focus is practical: well-made materials, clear information and reliable support for those who specify, sell and build with our wood.

Our documentation includes CE marking, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), and FSC™, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications. These provide information on product conformity, environmental impacts, responsible sourcing and the systems that guide our work.

More than a supplier, we aim to be a dependable partner—helping customers select suitable materials and supporting resellers and timber merchants in bringing charred wood to their markets.

Our journey

It started in a greenhouse.

A phone call between two school friends.
The first orders. And room to grow.

  1. 2018
    The beginning

    A greenhouse. A hand torch.

For the first three months, production took place in a family greenhouse. The first orders were prepared between the tomatoes and cucumbers.

  2. 160 m²
    The first workshop

    A space of our own.

The first dedicated workshop opened in the first year. It gave the work its own space beyond the greenhouse.

  3. 350 m²
    Room to grow

    The next move.

A larger workshop, the first forklift and a growing client list marked the next stage.

  4. 2,000 m²
    A larger operation

    More space. More people.

Production moved into larger premises as the team grew.

  5. 3,500 m²
    Today

    Manufacturing at scale.

The story now continues in a 3,500 m² facility, with controlled production and a team supporting projects across international markets.

Degmeda takes its name from deginta mediena — Lithuanian for charred wood.
